My name is Ben John. I am founder and executive director of Liftric. We are offering IT services mainly in the healthcare sector while having a primary focus on mobile apps as medical devices. Apart from my profession and also passion I find some calmness during my spare time in photography.
How it started
I started photograping in 2013 as some extension of my brain to persist moments in my life. I would define my early actions as senseless snapshotting. Taking less photographs, focusing more on composition and aesthetic began around early 2017. Hence, I would state that I am still new to this - but who is not? Every photograph is a challenge - you keep exploring and learning new things every day!
During my early steps I neglected theory of colours, change of perspectives, lines regarding composition and I spent very little time with an object before taking a photograph.
While getting inspired by other photographers, I am trying not to copy ideas and styles but using what I see and feel from other photographs as a supportive element to form my own view of the world.
My main interest in photography besides landscape is the interaction between multiple persons and how they merge with their environment.
I am seeing myself not as an artist or as some professional photographer. But as recurring requests from family and friends came in, it was about time to create this little portfolio. Therefrom the only purpose of this site is to share some photographs which I took over the course of time. I cannot refuse the thoughts of investing more time in that hobby but I guess it is a hobby for a reason and potentially should remain as is.
I started photographing with a Fujifilm X-T1 plus the XF35/1.4 - and have to admit that the X-series is somewhat a fantastic companion for capturing the daily beauty of life and could last for ages.
After several conversations with my uncle Markus and a visit around 2017, I had the opportunity to photograph with a Leica M and a Summilux 28. I cannot state anything else than that I deeply fell in love with that combination and from that moment on the red dot 🔴 started to somehow amaze me. Not that a Leica makes anybody a better photographer but because photography - at least for me - should be exactly like that.
I always lusted for photography being somehow the opposite pole to my fast-paced everyday life. As digital photography somehow forces you to do some sort of post-processing in order to express yourself the best possible way, this is obviously connected again to this fast moving world. Having a tool for my photography which concentrates on what's essential and leaves all the technical extras aside helps me to feel free and not imprisoned in that information overloaded and swifty environment.
Right now, I am mainly using a 28 & 50mm lens on a Leica M.
